Barcelona 28th - 29th November 1995

1st Euro-Mediterranean Conference

On November 28th and 29th 1995, in Barcelona, was held for the first time a meeting of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the 15 Countries of the European Union and of 12 Mediterranean Partner Countries (Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Malta, Tunisia, Jordan, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, Turkey) in view of setting up the “Euro-Mediterranean Partnership”.
With this event, sealed by the “Declaration of Barcelona”, Europe has started a programme of collaboration and cooperation – MEDA Programme – with the Countries of the Western Side of the Mediterranean.
The Mediterranean Laboratory Foundation submitted to Barcelona Euro-Mediterranean Conference the conclusions proposed, in 14 points, by the participants in the International Meeting on “The Mediterranean and Europe”, held in Naples on November 24th and 25th 1995.
