MED PRIDE – CAIRO 7TH MARCH 2004 10 a.m. – Italian Ambassador’s Residence The Med Pride Project, a project launched by the European Union, in managed, in cooperation with other partners, by the “Laboratorio Mediterraneo” of Naples, an Italian NGO. Med Pride is part of the Eumedis agreement signed between the European Union and the Mediterranean partners. This agreement was conceived to contribute to the economic and social Eumedis development for the Mediterranean partners and is implemented through funds from MEDA, the most important European instrument of economic cooperation in the Mediterranean area. Med Pride project aims to the establishment of a network of Centres of Excellence (CoE) in European and Mediterranean Countries. These CoE will elaborate operational models for the creation of new innovative enterprises and for the development of innovation in existing small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Med Pride is expected to contribute to diffusing information technologies at two levels: at a macro level, since a consistent part of the institutional CoE work will be carried out trough the internet, and at a micro level, by adding value to the social and economic environments, through both the creation of innovative enterprises and introduction of innovation in existing traditional sectors of SMEs.
