The project CINEMAMED, co-ordinated and launched by the Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo, is an important contribution to the cultural heritage of the Mediterranean. The movies of Mediterranean countries is an invaluable patrimony that deserves to be preserved by re-evaluating its nature and its function in the different contexts. This Festival of the Mediterranean countries constitutes the first part of the project Cinemamed. The outlook on the present is contained within the first two sections of the Festival, dedicated to important productions respective

of short-films and films between 1997-2000. The 3rd and 4th sections of the event cover the retrospectives and especially gives the possibility to follow the essential steps of the Algerian and Egyptian cinematography.
