The 3rd International Meeting about tourism in the
Mediterranean took place in Rome, on December 5th and 6th 1996,
organized by the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and
the Mediterranean Laboratory Foundation, in collaboration with the
University of Siena, the Institute of Tourist Engineering of Paris
University Marne-la-Vallée, and others. Michele Capasso,
President of the Foundation, chaired the first session concerning
the “Globalization of Markets and Mediterranean Tourism”.
The conclusions of this meeting meant to introduce
reasons and needs of an environmentally sustainable tourism, enabled
to improve life standards of citizens, communicate an image of places
attentive to values of solidarity, brotherhood and intercultural
dialogue. A further result achieved by the meeting consists in the
partnership with the Mediterranean Laboratory Foundation which has
published the proceedings.
