MEDITERRANEO
UN NUOVO BREVIARIO (ROMANIAN ED. )
PREDRAG MATVEJEVIC
When entering the Mediterranean, we choose first of all
a starting point : shore or scene, port or event, navigation
or tale. After, it becomes less important to know where
we started while it is more important to know where we
have arrived : what we have seen and how.
These are the first lines of the book, which has now become
a classic, written by Predrag Matvejevic, eminent Romanist
at Zagreb University, Professor at Sorbonne and outstanding
European intellectual, in his mother tongue, the Croatian,
in 1987. The new Italian edition published by Garzanti
has been revised, corrected and widened with whole
chapters. |

In his preface, Claudio Magris strongly states that a “great
voice from ‘Mitteleurope‘ – that is a continental
world, with large Croatian-Pannonian plains – has written
a brilliant, unexpected and shocking book on the Mediterranean,
which adds to cultural historiography as well as to the true
literature about sea, with its millenary poetic treasures that
challenge the ones sunk in the depths”.
The Mediterranean Laboratory Foundation has collaborated in
realising the Romanian edition.
