THE FORUM CIVILE EUROMED. OBJECTIVES AND MEANS FOR THE EURO-MEDITERRANEAN PARTNERSHIP. SESSION 9 LAND AND SEA RESOURCES
Proceedings of the II International Meeting Forum Civile Euromed, Mostra d’Oltremare, Centro Congressi Mediterraneo. Naples, 12th – 13th - 14th December 1997. VV.AA. Edizioni Magma– FLM Napoli 1998 (It.) Format 21 x 30 – pp. 122 – ISBN 88 – 8127 – 089-7

The ninth session of the II Forum Civile Euromed, within the area Land and Sea Resources, reaffirmed that the Mediterranean environment, fragile and on the brink of the environmental balance break down, is in part still unknown because of the lacking of homogenous statistical data concerning the whole basin. The Mediterranean area presents a rift between the north shore – economically rich, relatively rich in water resources and with a low population growth rate – and the south shore, economically poor, with poor water resources and a high population growth rate. It is necessary to reduce and fill this gap. Among the proposals it is worth mentioning : The setting up of an observatory on the Mediterranean coasts ; the implementation of a fish restocking system ; the setting up of a network of Mediterranean cities for the control of dangerous phenomena.
