Ambassadorīs speech for the Concert "Italy meets Egypt" celebrating the millionth Italian Tourist in Egypt during 2004
Sound and Lights 30th June 2005

Italy is happy to share tonight the magic of this scenario evoking the greatness of the Egyptian civilization which met with the equally great cultures of Greece and Rome.
Mutual influence between our two countries have never stopped since then and today we shall witness another big event of the series "Italy meets Egypt" celebrating the millionth Italian tourist in Egypt.
It comes as no surprise that Italy has been the opener of the new long wave of foreign tourism in this beautiful country which combines breathtaking views with unique historical and artistic sites.
Let me say that the tonight concert is not just a musical event as it takes its roots in a fertilized cultural ground. We are very grateful for the close cooperation which has been established with the Ministry of Tourism and in particular with H.E.Ahmed El Maghrabi, Minister of Tourism.
To symbolize the cultural dimension of the concert, we have asked the Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo, to seek a convergent harmony between ethno music performances revealing a common inspiration and spirituality between Egypt and Italy. The foundation represented here today by its President Mr. Michele Capasso, is one of the most important Euro-Mediterranean Institutions which promotes the dialogue among cultures. It is based in Naples and other Mediterranean cities. The Foundation has already successfully organized in Cairo in December 2004 the first Euro Mediterranean concert for cultural and social dialogue. By adapting and combining rhythms and sounds the December concert managed to speak the language of love and human solidarity. I am confident that also the event of tonight will be a success as it follows the same arrangements of the previous one. Actually we will not be listening only to melodies which recall common or similar traditions but I am sure that the musical synergies, created for the tonight performance, will evoke what Plato, the famous Greek philosopher, used to say:

"Music gives a soul to the Universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything".
