Situated on the banks of the River Jordan, the bridge can now be restored by Italian historic heritage experts. "Italy is proud to contribute to the safeguarding of the huge archaeological and historical heritage of the Near East," a note announces. In this light, the Italian authorities have accepted the invitation issued by the Jordanian and Israeli authorities to restore the old bridge which will thus aspire to become a symbol of peace on the disputed frontier on the River Jordan. Cronache storiche tramandate dagli scrittori classici e testimonianze archeologiche mostrano stretti rapporti tra Roma e Petra fin dal primo secolo avanti Cristo, con tanto di reciproche visite ufficiali. E quello scambio e quella collaborazione continuano e si rafforzano oggi, soprattutto grazie al supporto culturale che l´Italia è sempre pronta ad offrire al Regno Hascemita, il cui territorio è stato punto di incontro tra i popoli fin dall´alba della storia. A rafforzare questo legame tra i due Paesi del Mediterraneo é la mostra ´Giordania: crocevia di popoli e di culture´, allestita al Palazzo del Quirinale in occasione della visita di Stato del Re e della Regina di Giordania Abdallah II e Rania Al-Abdallah. L´esposizione, inaugurata dal Re giordano e dal Presidente della Repubblica, Giorgio Napolitano, è allestita nelle Sale delle Bandiere con 60 capolavori risalenti alle varie fasi della storia della Giordania, dal lontano Neolitico fino ai tempi dell´Impero ottomano. Alcune di queste opere sono uscite per la prima volta dai musei di Petra e Amman e sono in grado di raccontare l´eccezionale ricchezza di un Paese che ha attraversato oltre dieci millenni di storia. Il territorio dell´attuale Giordania é stato infatti un costante trait d´union tra l´Oriente mesopotamico, la valle del Nilo e il Mediterraneo. Dall´VIII millennio a.C. all´Età del Bronzo, fino al periodo delle grandi conquiste, tanti popoli sono stati attratti dalla Giordania e ognuno ha lasciato impronta evidente negli strati archeologici e nella cultura del Paese. Proprio questa storia ricca e variegata fa della Giordania un affascinante mosaico arricchito dalle mille tessere che compongono il suo millenario passato. Un Paese che ha saputo assimilare le esperienze di tanti popoli e tante civiltà ha anche imparato l´arte della tolleranza. E ben lo ha ricordato Napolitano sottolineando che "spesso queste civiltà si sono scontrate" e "tuttavia all´indomani di ogni scontro, le tessere del mosaico giordano si sono ricomposte, facendo del Paese una terra dove soffia lo spirito di tolleranza e dimostrando così che la collaborazione e gli scambi tra popoli che ieri erano nemici riescono sempre a sconfiggere la barbarie". D´altra parte lo spirito dichiarato della mostra, che celebra la Giordania come crocevia di popoli, è proprio quello di dimostrare che le infinite vicissitudini storiche che hanno plasmato il volto dei Paesi del Vicino Oriente sono un invito al dialogo tra le culture. E in tal senso Abdallah ha ricordato anche la stretta collaborazione culturale tra Italia e Giordania: "Sin dal 1927 durante il Regno del mio bisnonno, Sua Maestà il Re Abdallah I, il Governo italiano ha condotto scavi archeologici in differenti parti del nostro Paese, cosa che apprezziamo molto". Per questo il Re di Giordania ha auspicato che il visitatore della mostra "possa apprezzare attraverso questa veloce panoramica sulla nostra storia le testimonianze dell´eredità che i nostri due Paesi condividono". La mostra, promossa dalla Presidenza della Repubblica Italiana e dal Regno hascemita di Giordania, è curata da Civita e resterà aperta al pubblico da venerdì prossimo al 31 gennaio 2010. Historic chronicles written by classic writers and archaeological evidence show the close relationship between Rome and Petra from the first century before Christ, including reciprocal official visits. Napolitano made a point of reminding that "these civilisations frequently collided" and "in any case the day after the fighting, the tesseras of the Jordanian mosaic reformed themselves, making the territory a land home to the spirit of tolerance and demonstrating that collaboration and exchange between peoples that were enemies yesterday can always manage to defeat the barbarism". On the other hand the declared spirit of the exhibit, which celebrates Jordan as a crossroads of peoples, is to demonstrate that the infinite historic vicissitudes that imprinted the countries of the Near East are an invitation to dialogue between cultures. In this sense Abdullah reminded of the close collaboration between Italy and Jordan: "Since 1927, during the kingdom of my great grandfather, His Majesty King Abdullah I, the Italian government has carried out archaeological excavations in different parts of our country, something which we regard highly". For this the King of Jordan hopes that the visitors to the show "will be able to appreciate through this short panorama on our history, the evidence of the patrimony that our two countries share". E´ l´obiettivo del sindaco della capitale, Gianni Alemanno, e di questo ha parlato oggi con il re e la regina di Giordania in Campidoglio. "La coppia reale - ha spiegato Alemanno - ha un significato anche simbolico e d´immagine molto forte per lo sviluppo e la crescita del mondo islamico e riesce a dare segnali forti all´Occidente e quindi a creare una base culturale su cui costruire i processi di pace". La coppia reale non incontrerà invece il premier Silvio Berlusconi per il pranzo previsto per oggi a Palazzo Madama. A quanto si è appreso, il presidente del Consiglio ha avuto ieri un lungo e cordiale colloquio con re Abdallah di Giordania, centrato sulle tematiche mediorientali. Berlusconi e re Abdallah hanno quindi convenuto di rinviare l´incontro in altra data in tempi brevi. Con una giacca di pelle marrone, una gonna nera e tacchi alti, la regina si è fermata sulla scalinata del Palazzo senatorio insieme al sindaco e al re per salutare i romani e i turisti. Così la regina Rania di Giordania - in questi giorni in visita a Roma - commenta, in un´intervista a Vanity Fair in edicola domani, l´omicidio in Italia di Sanaa, la ragazza uccisa dal padre marocchino perché fidanzata con un italiano. "L´Islam è contro le uccisioni, ed è contro il farsi giustizia da soli. Questi crimini vanno contro le leggi umane e civili, vanno contro le leggi divine - spiega Rania -. Ciò che induce a commetterli sono tradizioni arretrate: molta gente non lo sa, ma i delitti d´onore avvengono anche in società non islamiche" e "la religione non li giustifica". "In Giordania - prosegue - avvengono ogni anno 20 delitti d´onore, che non è necessariamente un numero alto. Ma per me anche uno è troppo". L´istruzione è al centro delle attività della regina, che vi dedica l´iniziativa 1Goal per la scolarizzazione nei Paesi poveri, lanciata con il sostegno del mondo del calcio (la Fifa) della politica (Bill Clinton, Gordon Brown) e dello spettacolo (Bono). ´1Goal e´ una grande nuova campagna - racconta - centrata sui Mondiali di Calcio che l´anno prossimo si terranno per la prima volta in Africa. Proprio in Africa vive la metà dei bambini del mondo che non vanno a scuola. Vogliamo che i tifosi cantino e facciano il tifo e chiedano ai leader del mondo di mantenere le promesse fatte, perché quei leader hanno promesso di impegnarsi affinché i 75 milioni di bambini che oggi non vanno a scuola domani ci vadano. Non chiediamo soldi alle persone, chiediamo di andare sul sito e firmare. Da oggi alla fine dei Mondiali, speriamo di raccogliere 30 milioni di firme", che "porteremo ai summit dei leader del mondo". Quanto alle donne, "vedo che nelle nostre società le donne devono lavorare il doppio degli uomini per fare metà della carriera. "Islam is against murder, and it is against taking justice into your own hands. These crimes go against human and civil law, they also go against divine law," explained Rania. "The causes of the crimes are outdated traditions: many people are not aware of this, but honour killings also occur in non-Islamic societies" and "religion does not justify it". Queen Rania of Jordan is enthusiastic in describing her impressions of the capital this morning on Twitter. She arrived for an official visit yesterday evening, along with her husband, King Abdallah II. "I admire Romés reticence to abandon too much of itself in favour of modern comforts," writes the Queen in another post on the popular social network. Right after their meeting with President Giorgio Napolitano and his wife Clio, King Abdallah will see the leaders of the House and Senate, Gianfranco Fini and Renato Schifani. Meanwhile Rania will visit the Galleria Borghese, accompanied by Sandro Bondi, the Culture Minister. The royal couplés Roman day will end with a dinner at the Quirinale, and they will stay in the capital until Thursday. King Abdallah will be received by Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, tomorrow at noon in Villa Madama. Entro la fine del 2010, se Israele non crederà nella soluzione dei due Stati, svanirà la possibilità di un futuro Stato palestinese, per questioni geografiche: i territori già sono frammentati in cantoni". A sottolineare la necessità di un intervento rapido è re Abdallah di Giordania, in un´intervista a La Repubblica alla vigilia del suo arrivo in Italia, domani, per una visita di Stato di tre giorni. ´L´America e l´Europa intervengano - afferma re Abdallah - Israele abbia il coraggio di sedersi al tavolo coi palestinesi, con una fortissima copertura del presidente Obama e il sostegno saldo della Ue. Decida se integrarsi nel mondo arabo-musulmano o continuare a essere una fortezza, con le calamità che ne derivano per lui e tutti noi. Per ora sta scavandosi una fossa, sempre più profonda". Su Hamas, dice Abdallah, "noi appoggiamo la riconciliazione con Fatah promossa dall´Egitto. America ed Europa decidano da sé la loro politica. Riconoscano però l´urgenza, il prezzo terribile che tutti pagheremo. Capiscano anche che a Gaza sta consumandosi una catastrofe umanitaria, che l´assedio va sbloccato al più presto". In merito alla ancora non raggiunta intesa tra Israele e Stati Uniti, Abdallah afferma che si sarebbe aspettato di più: "Credevo in una svolta decisiva già all´inizio dell´estate, nell´avvio di un vero negoziato di pace all´Onu. Eppure - osserva - il nodo delle colonie israeliane, illegali per la comunità internazionale, resta centrale. Tutti chiediamo un congelamento, anche temporaneo, giusto per far decollare le trattative. Se Israele davvero crede nella formula dei due Stati, sa bene che le colonie nelle terre palestinesi diverrebbero proprietà palestinese. Fermarle sarebbe una prova della sua sincerità". Tra Giordania e Israele, sostiene Abdullah, "é pace fredda; anzi, va raggelandosi sempre di più. A maggio Netanyahu mi ha fatto molte promesse: nessuna finora mantenuta". Nella visita di Stato di domani in Italia "verrò a parlare con gli amici italiani. Solleciterò l´impegno del governo, come parte della Ue, nel processo di pace, e la collaborazione in vari mega-progetti in Giordania per un investimento di 20 miliardi di dollari in 10-15 anni".(ANSAmed). 2009-10-19 10:35 MIDDLE EAST: JORDAN; KING ABDULLAH, PEACE DISAPPEARING (ANSAmed) - ROME, OCTOBER 19 - "The window of hope, shortly, will close. By the end of 2010 if Israel doesn´t believe in the two state solution, the possibility of a future Palestinian state will disappear due to geographic questions: the territories are already fragmented in cantons". Kind Abdullah of Jordan underlined the need for fast intervention in an interview with La Repubblica on the eve of his arrival in Italy for a three day state visit. "America and Europe intervene, Israel has the courage to sit down with the Palestinians, with a strong support from President Obama and the solid support of the EU. It decides to integrate with in the Arab-Muslim world or continue to be a fortress, with the calamities that will ensue for it and all of us. Now it is digging a hole, wider and wider", said Abdullah. Regarding Hamas, said Abdullah, "we support the reconciliation with Fatah promoted by Egypt. America and Europe decide their policy. We recognize however the urgency, the terrible price that all will pay. They understand that a humanitarian catastrophe is happening in Gaza, that the siege is lifted as soon as possible". In terms of the not yet achieved understanding between Israel and the United States, Abdullah affirms that he hoped for more: "I believed in a decisive turn already at the beginning of the summer, in the start of real negotiations at the UN. And yet, the problem of the Israeli settlements, illegal for the international community, remain central. Everyone is asking for a freeze, even temporary, just to get the negotiations started. If Israel really believes in the two state formula, it knows that the settlements in the Palestinian land would become Palestinian property. Stopping would be a proof of sincerity". Between Jordan and Israel, Abdullah commented "it´s a cold peace, and getting colder. In May Netanyahu made a lot of promises but has not maintained any so far". During his state visit tomorrow in Italy Abdullah said, "I speak with our Italian friends. I will solicit the government´s commitment, as part of the EU, in the peace process, and collaboration in various large projects in Jordan for an investment of 20 billion dollars over 10 to 15 years".
