TURCHIA-UE:ERDOGAN; SIAMO PRONTI, SBAGLIA CHI CHIEDE DI PIU'

(ANSAmed) - NAPOLI, 2 SET - La Turchia ha già ottemperato a tutti i cosiddetti criteri di Copenaghen per l'avvio dei negoziati per l'adesione all'Ue e "chi si aspetta altre cose da noi sbaglia". Così il premier turco Recep Tayyip Erdogan è intervenuto oggi sulla spinosa questione dell' avvio dei negoziati di adesione all' Unione europea, atteso per il 3 ottobre prossimo. In occasione della consegna del premio "Mediterraneo istituzioni 2005", assegnatogli dalla Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo, Erdogan ha sottolineato che la Turchia ha cominciato da anni a prepararsi all' adesione all' Ue ed è "più pronta di altri Paesi, che hanno fatto parte della pattuglia dei Dieci ultimi Paesi entrati nell' Unione". Secondo il premier turco, l'ingresso del suo Paese nell' Unione europea è "un'occasione da non mancare" per unire e creare un'alleanza tra Islam e Occidente, alleanza cruciale anche per combattere il terrorismo. "Impedire questo processo - ha ammonito - è una fattura che nessuno potrà pagare davanti all' umanità". Erdogan, ricevuto il premio, ha lasciato Napoli e si è recato a Roma, dove a Palazzo Chigi incontrerà verso le 13,30 il presidente del Consiglio Silvio Berlusconi e il ministro degli Esteri Gianfranco Fini. TURKEY: ERDOGAN, FIT TO JOIN THE EU

(ANSAmed) - NAPLES, SEPTEMBER 2 - "Turkey meets all the Copenhagen criteria to start EU accession talks and nobody can expect more from us", Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today. Speaking in Naples, where he was presented with the award 'Mediterranean Institutions 2005' by the Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo, Erdogan said: "We have been preparing to join the EU for a very long time and we are more qualified to be member of the Union than some of the new countries who recently joined the EU." He added: "Turkey's entry into the EU is an opportunity that cannot be missed. It represents a chance to forge an alliance between the West and the Muslim world, an alliance which is crucial to fight international terrorism. Some countries, for some reasons which are difficult to comprehend, want the EU to be a sort of Christian club but the EU is not a Christian club, it cannot be and must never be one. For us the EU is a set of values which we share and hindering our entry is too high a price to pay." After receiving the award the Turkish Prime Minister left Naples to take the high road to Rome for a meeting with his Italian counterpart Silvio Berlusconi.
