MEDITERRANEO:
politiche e i numerosi problemi".
Come Predrag Matvejevic, professore all'Università La Sapienza
Studi Mediterranei all'Università della Svizzera italiana,
vissuta e comunicata".(ANSAmed) KTX 06/05/2005 18:03
MEDITERRANEAN:
CULTURE, KEY ROLE FOR DEVELOPMENT
(ANSAmed) - NAPLES, MAY 6 - "The Mediterranean culture needs
to be promoted and to be shared with all countries of the area.
Despite tensions of all sorts". The appeal was launched during
the conference 'The Mediterranean: which vision for the future?',
being held in the Italian city of Naples, by people who have been
urging for ages much more attention towards the crucial issues of
the Southern shore of the Mediterranean basin. Predrag Matvejevic,
professor at La Sapienza University in Rome and president of the
Scientific Committee of the Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo,
is one of them. According to him, the problems of the Mediterranean
area should be solved through the concept of identity. "The
most European Institutions operate only in the Northern shore, while
the Southern is still not considered at all". While agreeing
with Matvejevic, Athanasios Moulakis, director of the Institute
for Mediterranean Studies of the Italian Switzerland, stressed the
importance of culture within the political and economic development
of the Mediterranean area. "The example is given by the setting
up of the Anna Lindh Foundation - for the dialogue among cultures
- in Alexandria. This is, however, the only European institution
on the Southern shore," he said. "Culture is an extraordinary
tool for connecting people - Moulakis concluded - but it needs to
be spread and promoted". (ANSAmed). KTY
