OPENING CEREMONY PROGRAMME OF ANNA LINDH FOUNDATION

- BRUSSELS, APRIL 18 - Representatives of 35 national networks which make up
the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for Dialogue between Cultures
gathered today in the Egyptian city of Alexandria to attend the opening of
the new Euro-mediterranean Institution to be held on Wednesday April 20. The
ceremony will be opened by a performance of Mediterranean and European
musicians. On the occasion, a sculpture representing the Euromed logo will
be also unveiled. The work of art is formed by two letters readable both as
'm' and 'e' and placed in a way to represent a boat, symbol of the
Mediterranean and of the dialogue among different cultures. After the
concert, a conference on 'Unity within diversity' is expected to take place
with the participation of the Foundation's Director, Traugott Schofthaler,
along with two university lecturers, namely Assia Alaoui Bensalah, Moroccan
expert in International law, and Malek Chebel, Algerian anthropologist. The
two professors were in the High Level Group formed by the former EU's
Commission President Romano Prodi in order to give birth to the Foundation.
