OPENING CEREMONY
MAISON DE LA MEDITERRANEE
In the presence of Governments’ Representatives and Ambassadors
of Mediterranean Countries, the President of Regione Campania, Antonio
Bassolino, will inaugurate – next Saturday on June 22nd at
11,00 am – the Central Office of Maison de la Méditerranée,
the “House” of Mediterranean Peoples.
The Maison de la Méditerranée, which is an institution
of the Mediterranean Laboratory Foundation, is made up of many Offices
and Bureaux instituted in various Countries of the Mediterranean
area, most of them already running , such as Amman, Marrakesh, Madrid,
Skopje.
“By this institution, – stated Arch Michele Capasso,
president of the Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo – we
have put into practice the recommendation and the task we were charged
with by the 2.248 participants in the II Forum Civile Euromed, organised
in Naples by our Foundation in December 1997”.
“It has not been easy – concluded Mr Capasso –
to come to the choice of Italy for housing the Central Office of
the Maison de la Méditerranée since other Countries,
such as France and Spain as well as the Arab Countries of the South
Shore, strongly submitted their candidature until the last moment.
The choice of our Country and Naples, also wished by our President
of the Region, Antonio Bassolino, has been strategic because it
not only means officially recognizing our geographical central position,
but also our political engagement in reaffirming peace among peoples
as a moment of cultural and economic growth of the Mediterranean,
and not only” .
