Mario Molinari began his artistic activity self-taught in the fifties. Inspired by the sculptures of Africa and Oceania and by an particular interest for Pablo Picasso’s sculpture, his first works were realized using welded copper foils. In the sixties, in Turin, Molinari is among the protagonists of new surreal and fantastic tendencies which, through the school of Raffaele Ponte Corvo, flow together in the artistic group “Surfanta”. Starting from this experience, his research shores at an almost fairy-tale representation where, inspired to geometrical shapes, his sculptures aim to a stylized abstraction through the use of wood or, for the large-scale installations, of the reinforced concrete coloured with strong and vivacious tonalities of colour. In his artistic path the colour is always a priority element of his life philosophy.
