NAPOLI THE PROVINCIA DI NAPOLI call a lecture on February 14th 1996,
from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the hall of the Cenacolo in the Chamber of Deputies
in Rome, Vicolo Valdina 3/a, to present an appeal to the Chancellor and to the
Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany in order to prevent
the risk of the expected closing of the Goethe Institut of Naples which represents
a vital element in the cultural system of relationships that contributes to the
construction of the European unity and plays a significant role in the cultural
exchanges among Mediterranean Countries, granting an irremissible connection between
those Countries and Europe. The institutions that support this appeal mean
to press for the interest of the Italian Government and above all the Foreign
Minister, the Minister for Cultural Heritage, the Minister of Education, because
the Goethe Institut of Naples plays an essential function in building up scholars,
scientists, teachers of South Italy and holds an important role among those cultural
institutions that constitute the defence of civil and cultural resistance of the
South of Italy, with its tradition of thought and civilization that, risen in
the Magna Graecia, has fed the most vital creations in the history of Europe. The
Goethe-Institut of Naples is the only one in Southern Italy and scholars from
Campania, Puglia, Lucania, Calabria, Molise, and Abbruzzi refer to it. Naples,
that has been representing since the classic age the great culture of South Italy,
is at present, for world-wide unanimous recognition, one of the most important
centres of intellectual activity: the closing of the Goethe-Institut in Naples
would remove strength to a cultural cooperation that is important for Germany
as well as for Italy and Europe. Rome, February 14th 1996 |
