MEDITERRANEO
UN NUOVO BREVIARIO

By accessing the Mediterranean we see above all a departure
point: a shore or a scenery, a port or an event, navigation
or an account. Then it all becomes less important where we departed
from or where we arrived to: central is what one has seen and
how.
These are the first lines of the book written in Croatian by
Predrag Matvejevic, Professor at the University of Zagreb and
the Sorbonne and renowned European intellectual in 1987.
The new Italian edition published by Garzanti has been reviewed,
corrected and extended by several chapters.
Claudio Magris writes in the foreword how an “important
representative of Mitteleuropea, notably the plains of Croatia,
has written a superb, unexpected and striking
|
book on the Mediterranean
which enriches not only the cultural stereography but the entire
literature of the sea, with its millenary poetic treasures which
have fallen into the abyss.
