The activities of the Fondazione Mediterraneo
aim to provide publicity, representation and networking to the dialogue
between Euro-Mediterranean cultures and societies.
Among the most significant activities are:
- The holding of exhibitions on the cinema of Middle-Eastern Europe
and Arab-Mediterranean countries. Among these is the "Cinemamed"
project which is organises an Itinerant Mediterranean Cinema Festival,
as well as high level training courses for professions related to the
cinema.
- The redaction and promotion of "Appeals for peace and the protection
of the environment, national territory, resources and cultures of the
Euro-Mediterranean area": Appeal for Peace in ex-Jugoslavia (1994),
Appeal for Water (1995), Appeal for the Sassi di Matera,(1995), Appeal
for Scientific Research in Southern Italy (1996) Appeal for Albania
(1997), Appeal for Kosovo (1999) Appeal for Palestine (2001 and 2002),
Appeal for the Protection of the Mediterranean (2002).
- The award, as of 1998, of the "Premio Mediterraneo" under
the following sections: Peace, Culture, Art, Institutions, Diplomacy,
Information and the Delfino d'Argento. Among the winners are : Kiro
Gligorov, King Juan Carlos I of Spain, King Hassan II of Morocco, King
Hussein Bin Talal of Jordan, Cardinal Etzchegaray, Maria Grazia Cutuli,
Julio Fuentes, Marcello Gigante, Paolo Bufalini, Nabil, Noa, Moni Ovadia,
Lea Rabin, Elias Chacour.
- The award, as of 1996 in the context of the Triestefilmfestival of
the "Premio Internazionale Laboratorio Mediterraneo for the best
short film in support of the dialogue between the cultures of Eastern
Europe and those of the Mediterranean.
- The holding (also through the "Collège de la Méditerranée")
of advanced training seminars which aim to supply scientific and cultural
resources to future generations of Euro-Mediterranean researchers for
the acquisition of a free critical awareness as an essential means to
promote both science and literature, and economic and political initiatives.
- The holding of the "Euromed Civil Forum" (Barcelona 1995,
Naples 1997 and Naples 2003)
- The holding of "Euro-Mediterranean Conferences" for the
promotion of dialogue between cultures and societies (Naples 1995; Amman
2000; Skopje 2001).
- The holding, as of 1999, of the "Reseau des Chaires" in
collaboration with the universities of the Euro-Mediterranean Countries
as follows: Chaire Averroès, Marrakesh; Chaire Ibn Batouta, Tangiers;
Chaire Maimonide, Cordoba; Chaire Joachim Du Bellay, Nantes; Chaire
Paul Valéry, Corsica. In particular the Chaire Unesco for advanced
Mediterranean studies has been instituted, which sees the participation
of internationally recognised scholars and has the objective of developing
a common civil awareness and promoting a structured dialogue between
cultures and societies through young people.
- The realisation of a European Master: "Models of complexity and
Human Ecology: tools for community development" (Naples 1998-2001),
open to graduates in psychological disciplines for the development of
empowerment and the promotion of individual and group community resources.
- The carrying out of promotion initiatives for the development of local
communities, such as the action-oriented research "Tourism and
the Quality of Life in the Historical Centre of Naples" (Naples,
December 2002).
- Publication of printed and multimedia editions, among which: The
Film Libraries of the Mediterranean (Various Authors,2003), Cinema According
to Salah Abou Seif (Ceretto, 2002), Annals of the Accademia (Various
Authors, 2001), The Mediterranean House (Various Authors, 2001), Arab-Mediterranei
